In Remembrance of Airport K9 "Piper" 01/17/2018 On January 3rd, 2018, our friends at Cherry Capital Airport sadly said goodbye to K9 “Piper” after a long battle with cancer. Piper was a 9 year old Border Collie who became one of the internet’s most recognizable dogs. With a coat as shiny as his eyes, Piper was both visually striking and easily lovable. His main job was to keep the runway clear at Cherry Capital Airport of a variety of wildlife that could potentially get sucked into a plane’s engines when taking off and landing. Throughout the #TheBet 10/14/2017 Here in Winnipeg, we love hockey. We skate for fun with family, play pick-up games with friends at our local community centers, and we watch the Winnipeg Jets. Like…a lot. So when Spike’s K9 Fund founder, Jim Hatch, decided to boast that the Carolina Hurricanes (his favorite team) would be decisively better than our Jets this year, we did what any loyal sports fan would do. We made a bet. The rules are simple. At the end of the 2017-2018 regular season, we are going to take a look at the Indianapolis PD Sizing Trip 07/21/2017 As the first batch of K9 Storm Patrol Swat Vests start making their way to Indianapolis, take a look back at some of the highlights from the sizing trip from June 30th, 2017 that help make outfitting all 30 dogs for the Indy PD possible! K9 Unit Calendar Raises 25K For Ronald McDonald House 05/17/2017 HUGE shout out to the Winnipeg Police Service K9 Unit who presented Ronald McDonald House with a check for just over $25,000 on May 16th! All the proceeds came from the sale of their awesome K9 calendars and various corporate sponsors within the local community. To everyone who purchased a calendar from us directly, THANK YOU for your support! Your generosity is felt by all involved, but most importantly, the children and their families that are given a home away from home at RMH. Little Girl Fights Cancer, Becomes Officer for a Day 05/05/2017 Sierra Shank is not your typical 7 year old. She has fought more in her short life than most prizefighters will in an entire career. Diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, this little girl has had to withstand 5 brutal rounds of chemotherapy and 14 rounds of radiation therapy. These treatments are extremely laborious and difficult on both the patient and their family. In 2016, Sierra had the opportunity to do whatever her heart desired most, through a wish granted by the Make-a-Wish Foundation. K9 Credo and the LBPD K9 Unit 12/09/2016 On June 28, 2016, the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) sadly lost one of their own. K9 “Credo” was shot and killed in the line of duty by a barricaded felon during a SWAT operation. Credo’s passing followed a shocking string of canine deaths in the USA but more importantly, deeply hurt everyone involved; the department, the SWAT team, and most of all, his handler Ofc. Mike Parcells. However; in the months that followed, the whole department moved forward in an awe-inspiring way. The Long
